Absolutely nothing wrong with helping the less fortunate, in fact it is a religious obligation - it is just with certain current state affairs, even in giving an Islamic charity has become something that might label you as supporting groups such as Hamas, Hizbullah, even the so called Al Qaida - in America, there are already court cases from family members of terror victims (American and Israeli), who are suing certain Islamic charities, because of supposed links to Hamas... which is really sad.

Alternative

Due to the current affairs in the world there is a simpler way to support fellow muslims in need. There are countless families and even orphaned children in Morocco who would welcomly accept your donations. If you want to really make an immediate difference then do something proactive such as visiting a local hospital and see what support you can provide. For instance im aware there a large number of adults and children confined to hospitals or their homes because they dont have the finances to buy a wheelchair. Relatively speaking, they are not that expensive and you could easily give one and make a world of difference to someones life.

good suggestions, the only thing is, I have to be in Morocco to do that and make sure the money is going to whoever needs it - I think most ex pats try their utmost to give sadaka to the needy in Maroc... I was kinda shocked to see on 2M the terrible comparison between those who spent Eid el fitr in Hospital and those who spent it locked up in Jail... I have nothing against Jailbirds having some kind of good quality of living.. but it leaves a sour taste in the mouth when people in Hospitals are ill and recovering in terrible conditions, it being worse for those who don't have anyone to bring in decent meals, clothes etc..
