Salafi Muslims...

Can someone please explain to me what exactly Salafi Muslims believe in??
And what are the differences from a normal Sunni muslim?

I have heard that salafi followers want to live there lives like the time of the Prophet(pbuh)...and they dont believe in science etc...Anyone know anything about this?

Please I dont want copying and pasting etc just some basic facts etc....

Salaf means (before, the past ) etc...
people like to be just like what the sahaba used to be.
the way they used to pray talk eat etc...
all too good until you get to the ones who like to think that any Islam other Salaf is void because it's not how the sahaba used to live it then you start to get into trouble.however those are very few but do exist so we must be careful not to fall in that category because it's form of extreemism.

Salam Khalid, good question. As Ti said it comes from Salaf...meaning past/precedeeing...salafi muslims take their practices from as-salaf us-salih (meaning the pious predecessors); Rasoolullah (saw) and the sahaba, from the first three generations (i.e the Prophet (s), the taabieen, and the taabi-taabieen). Also the difference is that they don't follow the teachings of a specific venerated imam, such as Imam Malik/Imam Hanbal and so on, although they do refer to their teachings. There's no blind following which can sometimes occur in the 4 madahib. Salafiyyah strives to be free from biddah and cultural misguidance and so on...

As Ti said, you do get some who go a bit too deep into things and claim that non-salafi muslims are not good or whatever...this is incorrect! Salafi muslims are definitely sunni muslims, but just free from biddah and following the example of the best teacher (saw) and his sahaba

I just get confused at times; when Islam such a simple religion in terms of what is right and what is wrong, can be divided into so many sects etc...

Also non-salafi muslims, normal sunni muslims (im gettin confused now! lol) also follow the sahaba and the prophet Mohammed (pbuh), some muslims are stricter than others etc but why do you need another name so that ur called a more stricter muslim??
Why dont you practice ur deen and be strict and just be called a muslim?? If someone is religious that wil come through in what he preaches and how he lives his life, and how he dresses, beard etc no?
I think im confusing myself now lol...

So what kind of Biddah do salafi's keep away from? TV, Internet, etc?

There is nothing to be confused about.
Allah said that a muslim is a person who:
1- says that shahadda
2- pray 5 times a day
3- fast
4- gives zaka
5- go to hadjj if possible

the madhabs are ways to fullfilling the laws.
some want to pray better than others give more to the poor
others want to follow excatly the above to the best of their knowledge.... how you do them is up to you .
you have the Quran and the sunnah(prophets teachings)as long as you do your best even if you keep making mistakes and know that Allah is most merciful and will forgive all sins till the last moment of death then you have nothing to worry about any other wispering is from Satan and satan is man;s enemy
Just remember this :
Main teachings are
pray
help your neighbours
denouce evil wherever you hear or see it
never give up even if you commit the worst acts
and most of all treat of humans the same regadless of who they are because an evil person may repend and become good so never give up and say this person is lost.
never judge anyone or say that he will go to hell ...
and what ever you do Allah knows better.

At the end of the day Nads and brother Tihad described the Salafi way of life beautifully!

What is a "normal" Sunni? I can't define that anymore to anyone. There are so many takes on what the correct way of life is these days that people are very confused. Their are many paths in Islam, and people will be judged on what they choose to do. I know that personally, I feel that in living with as little outside inference is best. People have reached the stage what when a prescript of the deen is mentioned to them, they say that this or that 'is only sunnah'. What is a Sunnah if it is not a way to be living our lives. It is said that we should look to the prophet SWS as a7san khalk and obide by the prescripts qur'an. If we do that, we cannot go far wrong.
