Brothers,
Since this topic is about reverts, i'd like to tell you this story (true). A couple of months ago a dutch boy (about 20 years old) called us home and wanted to meet us. Eventually I inveted him. He's a dutch revert. After having dinner with us he began telling how he became a moslim:
One day when he was about 12 or 13 he was at the library. He didn't have any book in his mind so he just picked up a book blindely. To his amazing when he opened his eyes it was the Holy Quran. So he began reading it.
One day he was late in the library reading the Quran. When he came back home his mom asked him why he was late. He said he was at the library reading. The mom suspected him so she took his bag and opened it. Somehow she found the Quran in it. She threw the Quran away and she smacked (I'll call him my friend from here on) my friend on the face and told him to go upstairs and wait untill his father comes home. My friend said he waited in his room. When his father returned and heared the story from his mother he called him to come downstairs. My friend told me that his father showed him the four corners of the house. He kept beating him, beating him on his face and all over his body.
Eventually my friend left home because there was so much hate against him and he wouldn't let what he has known about islam. He found an appartment. There he began learing about islam by himself. At the beginning he was a sunni but eventually he came to the conclusion that he had to become a shi'i. He said he went to Iran to visit holy shrines. When he reached al imam al Rida (alayh al salaam) he began trembling and crying without knowing the reason.
He also showed us some religous books he had read (I could say he has read more than me, so many books). when I saw howmuch he read I really had so much respect for him. At the and I asked him to lend me a dutch book which is about shi'a (probably the only book about shi'a written in dutch) and another book.
This was about 8 months ago. About 3 months ago I heard from some friends that this person got coloncancer. They say the doctors had to remove several parts from the guts. The cancer reached his kidnies now. They say it's hopeless.
At the first place I thought it's unusual for a person of his age to get coloncancer. Before I heard he had cancer I actually heard that his relation with his family was getting better and he was visiting them. It could be that his family put soemthing in the food for him.
My fault is that I didn't visit my friend yet, but I must see him. He had suffered so much and doesn't deserve this.
