Bismi'Allah arRahman arRahim

Assalamu Alikum,

Dear sister Samira. I did not have found the time yet to wrestle through all the volumes of hadith. I know I have read it before, but I cannot recall in which one. I am lacking a bit of now (my poor little baby is ill ).

Ofcourse I have no studied on fikh as a scholar but I can say that many Maliki pray with hands at their sides, when standing. Just like Shi'a do.

They pray with the hands by the sides because that is how the Prophet Rasul Allah PBUH prayed too. It has been reported that The Prophet after Takbiratul Ihram used to keep his hands by his sides. Therefore imam Malik
ruled that the hands be kept hanging by the sides.

Imam Shafei, basing his verdict on a narration from Abu Dawud, considered folding the hands as optional, and Imam Malik considered it as Makrooh in obligatory prayers.

Imam Malik is the earliest. He was from Medina where he lived and was born. One could say that he know the customs of the Prophet PBUH and the sahaba as they were passed on? That is just how I reason. Because of his geograophical circumstances imam Malik could easily trace back to the generations of the days of Rasul Allah PBUH

Quote:
“But the most significant of all the amendments is the folding of hands during the prayers. There is strong indication that it was Mu‘ăwiyah who invented this custom. Imam Mălik bin Anas, founder of the Măliki school of Sunni law, orders his followers to keep their hands unfolded and straight (just as Shi‘as do). His reasoning is that the people of Medina keep their hands unfolded in the prayers; and they must have seen the Prophet praying; so what they do must be based upon the doings of the Prophet himself. Imam Mălik died in the second century, and his reasoning along with the traditions of ‘Abdullăh bin Zubayr,[1] Ibn Sirin,[2] and other experts of Islamic law confirm that the Muslims of Medina were not folding their hands in the prayers up until the second century at least. On the other hand, those Imams of fiqh who were brought up in Iraq or Syria under the influence of Banu Umayyah ordered their followers to fold their hands.”

It is Mustahab for the person offering prayers to stand erect, slacken down his shoulders, place his hands on his thighs, joining his fingers together, look at the place of sajdah, place the weight of his body equally on two
feet, stand in humility and keeping both his feet in line.
