Asalamu alaikum,

Does anyone know of any ahadith which recommend (or do NOT recommend) marrying relatives/cousins?

JazakAllah

Walaikum assalam,

Marrying cousins is permitted in Islam.

There is no real medical evidence that marrying a first cousin will lead itself lead to any weakening the gene-pool.

See, for example,

Salaam...

JazakAllahu Khair sister Houda. Read some of those links... very interesting!!

It's just that I recall reading a hadith (ibn majah i think?!) recommending that we should marry from afar, for the sake of the health of future children. No-one else seems to know of this hadith though... so maybe I am mistaken!

Thanks again houda

Lalla Aisha: Why not? Better than marrying a stranger I'd say
