Question

Salamma3likoum All,

How do you stop yourself from committing the same sin over and over again? be it big or small...?

Sometimes shaytan can get the better of you...and you fall into the same trap, how do you try to stop yourself from committing the same sins again?

Assalam Alaikoum Khoya,

Well as my parents said to me when I was going to attend Secondary School was: “It’s easier not to indulge in sins rather than to repent.”

I think the easiest way too not to fall into Shaytan’s trap is to realise
a) Why you’re committing the sin
b) The reason why it’s sinful and the affects that the sin could have on you.

And It is prohibited (haram) and sinful to talk about sins, whether current or past, except when there is a Shariah-countenanced reason.

I think the most important point to remember is Sins are wiped out by sincere repentance, so just by bearing this mind just makes you realise how Merciful & forging our Creator is.

Wa Salam

Salam

I understand what you are saying Khalid, it is easy to get fooled by shaetan and that;s why it's evry important not to let him win by avoiding temptation whatever shape or form.
Remember whatever sin you commit does not get recorded right away if you repent before you go to bed but when you do a good deed it records straight away how bad can it be?.
here is the proof:
The Holy Prophet [s] said: "The sigh of the people of Hell is mostly because of
the postponement of repenting."

Al-Mahajjat-ul-Bayda

Imam Baqir [a] said: "He who repents of his sins is as the one who has not any
(burden of) sin.

Wasa'il-ush-Shi'ah vol. 16, p. 74

Imam Amir ul Mu'mineen Ali [a] said: "How numerous procrastinators there are who
postpone (repenting and doing good deeds) until when death overtakes them!

Ghurar-ul-Hikam, p. 240

The Holy Prophet [s] told Ali-ibn-Abi-Talib [a]: "O' Ali! Blessed is he who
Allah looks upon while he is weeping for the sin that none is aware of except
Allah.

(Various traditions emphasize that one must not let others know of his sins. One
must make confessions about his sins only to Allah and, then, repent.)

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 77, p. 63

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "During the third part of every night and on the
night before Friday from the beginning (until the break of dawn) Allah sends an
angel unto the sky of the earth in order to call: 'Is there any needy who asks
that I may bestow upon him his need? Is there any repentant one that I may
return to him? Is there any seeker of forgiveness that I may forgive him?'"

Note:

Islamic traditions teach that sleeping on the night before Friday is called 'the
regret sleep'; for, on the Reckoning Day, people will regret very much that they
had been asleep on the nights before Fridays.

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 3, p. 314

Imam Sadiq, the sixth Imam, [a] said: "Shut the doors of sins through seeking
refuge to God, and open the doors of obedience by (reciting) 'Bismillah hir
rahman ir rahim'."[4]

Thumbs up

Salamma3likoum All,

Tihad, Houda,

Thank you again for your input guys...you make alot of sense...Minor sins do grow as time goes on...

I guess at the end of the day, its up to the individual and how strong his/her iman is...

Sometimes i see brothers and sisters mislead and falling into the kaffer trap so easily which makes me so mad, Me included, (e.g haraam income, loans etc all of this has become normal for many muslims now), if we dont do things the kaffer way, we are seen as 'un-cool' or not being intelligent enough to make something of our lives...

Allah y hdeena...

The problem lies when we look at other Muslims sinning and see that they don’t feel guilty after committing a sin. So, what do they do ? They invite us to sin along with them, and not only that they justify their reasons for sinning and make it sound convincing that we fall into the first trap of Shaytan .

The Mortgage issue is a good example, we look at others who have mortgages and wish we could buy our own property so brothers could then marry the sister they want with the consent of her parents for marriage because you are now eligible and can support your wife because you own your own home. When in fact your committing sin.

Khalid, look to pleasing Allah {Subhanna Wa Tala} as your rewards will always be far more greater. I pray that Allah will help you and send you a guiding companion who will be content in rented accommodation

Salam...

Ameen a khtee for all of us inshallah...Inshallah thats what I will do sis, pleasing Allah(swt) should be all our main goal in this life...

To be honest to sin in this day and age is so easy, there is haraam all around us, not just in the western society, but islamic countrys its far worse!! and for us to try to be as pious as possible and avoid falling into shaytans trap has become very hard indeed but NEVER impossible...
The mortgage and loans issue is a prime example like you mentioned, and especially in this day and age and to go without these 2 things is more or less impossible in order to progress in today's society...

Allah hydeena...

I don’t think we should try generalising what other people do. As we have no licence to judge others only Allah {Subhanna Wa Ta’ala}. I think it lies with our peer pressure and who we “hang out with”. People who pray together stay together.

The Beloved of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:

“Be with the group, and beware of staying away, for the Devil is with those alone and he is further from two. Whoever desires the plains of Paradise should remain with the group...”

[Tirmidhi, Ibn Maja, and Ahmad]
