Not worth the trouble! There are so many things you can't eat after that (for fear of discoloring the bleached teeth) that it ain't worth it!

Coffee through a straw? I think not!

No I didn't. I was thinking of doing it but now I changed my mind.

The homekits don't work as well as the professional job.

I decided just to leave mine, my teeth are fine. I was just sucked in by this whole Hollywood smile hype but it turns out its not really worth it!

Bright white

That kit is pretty good, it didn't make a major difference, but i can see it.

A colleague of mine had her teeth whitened 3 years ago & she smokes & drinks red wine. She got hers done professionally for about £400...i reckon its worth it as its supposed to last for 4 years!

Yeah I was gonna do mine professionally too. Was also quoted £400. But I can't believe she drinks red wine. Surely the teeth are getting stained or is she abstaining?

Here's what you do if you don't want to look discolored in the choppers like the typical snaggle-toothed Manchester United hoolie.

Go on Ebay. Find 15% to 22% hydrogen peroxide gel - *not carbamide peroxide, carbamide is more than 50% weaker in strength than pure hydrogen peroxide - in bulb or syringe applicators.

Have a friend apply 1-2mm layer on top of your 8 front top and bottom teefies. Use small plastic spatula. Try to avoid gel contact with gums. Keep your head back and your mouth open as peroxide does its break down process, which should take 19 - 23 minutes.

Do it up to three times over a 5 day period.

The addition of a diode laser's light (970nm generally) or a curing lamp acts as a catalyst to the hydrogen peroxide's break down process, thus the reaction occurs faster (30 seconds to 5 minutes, depending). Nonetheless, the peroxide will perform a breakdown process naturally with time - about 20 minutes - and have the same effect on your teefers without a catalyst (light). Laser light is cooler to the surface area of the teeth versus a curing lamp, hence less risks to the tooth pulp.

If possible, ask for the PH level of hydro perox gel, it should be close to or above 6, with 7 being the nuetral PH of water, and anything below 5.3 being too caustic to use. Using 15 to 22% (22% is the maximum sold for out of office dental use) the gel should be PH safe, only when you hit 35% hydro (normal in-office max) would you need to worry very much about the PH level.

Why not use 35% hydro like the big boys? At 35% you must use a dental dam (gum protector) because no contact with the gums can be made - yes, it would hurt-burn. With 35% hydro peroxide you shorten the time to 4-9 minutes without catalyst light, and down to 30 seconds with a laser catalyst light.

Brush teeth very thoroughly before gel application. Rinse mouth with water followed by gargling with a flouride mouthwash after gel treatment.

There will be a certain level of tooth sensitivity after gel treatments, allow 1 to 2 weeks to pass for sensitivity level to return to normal.

Expect 2 to 3 shades brighter after one to two treatments with some people having 3 to 5 shades effect. Anything over 6 shades is highly, highly unlikely, so shy away from products marketed with such mad claims.

Last warning, even if you use 15% hydro for home use, you should expect to feel it - it's pretty darn strong stuff. That's why it works. You'll actually even feel the 6% to 10% Crest Strips, the only difference is you use many more applications of Crest Strips to get a lesser effect as 2 to 3 applications of higher % hydro gel. Every toofie owner is different, and one should balance their whitening expectations and proclivity for tooth sensitivity with the right hydro percentage.

Good Luck. Hoolies!

After only 3 treatments you'll have big white Bollywood choppers.
