You are very welcome Dennis, I live in the UK and am not moroccan. I've visited a couple of times and really enjoyed it. I now have people in morocco I'm pleased to say are friends and I hope to visit frequently in the future. I liked the desert, Marrakech for it's medina....but it is very busy there. The Atlas mountains are beautiful and I loved Essaouria on the coast....dispite the wind. But wherever you go the warmth and friendliness of the moroccan people is evident.

Thank you for the reply Arwen,

I have a friend that has traveled there many times and he's told me the same thing. He said that of all the places he's been (and he's been all over the world) Morocco was his favorite.

If I could go tonight I would.............

Thank You my friend..........

Hi Dennis,
Small world! I am in western MA, very close to Ct. I, too, am actively researching Morocco and Moroccan Arabic - people call it "Darija," but my understanding is this just means "dialect," so Moroccan Arabic is a better term. My daughter is teaching in Casablanca for one year, and I am planning to join her in January.
I did a lot of looking on the net to learn Moroccan Arabic - this, I bet, would be the best thing to use.....
http://www.moroccanlanguage.com/http...anlanguage.com unfortunately, it costs about 50 bucks...
It is not a written language, and I understand that most Moroccans speak standard Arabic. It is very very hard for an English speaker to learn (my daughter says it takes three years to learn about the same amount of Arabic as one year of studying Spanish. Also, many speak French in Morocco as well.
What kinds of things do you want to know? If you go to the Amazon site, you will find lots of books about Morocco.
I can't wait to go!
Diahni

Arwen,
Did you go to Casa? I heard that it's about as unfriendly as any big modern city, though I do know that Moroccans are lovely people.

Hi, no I have not been to Casa, even our moroccan friends advised against it and said tit is like any other european city of comerce. The only thing of interest to see is the Hassan Mosque, but even that as mosque's go there are others more worthy in other cities. I have always thought of Casa as a kind of romantic place, Bogart and Bacall influence no doubt..LOL Now I have had my illusion shattered...but then again I have never seen it for myself, so maybe I should make it a destination to visit one day in the future.

True to say I have always found the moroccans I have met to be both friendly and curtious and extremely pleased and proud to welcome you to their country. I love it more each time I go.
