Cool African-American mother and daughter

Greetings,

My mom and I will be traveling to Morocco next month. We'll be staying 1 night in Casablanca, 2 nights in Fez, and 7 nights in Marrakesh. I'd like to visit Essouire for a couple of days, we'll see. We will be on our own for the last 4 days. Our tour group departs 4 days before we do, we wished to spend a little more time there.

How is Riad Maria? We definitely want to spend time in one. Preferably one that Moroccan tourists use as opposed to North American.

We have been informed that individuals with darker skin can be mistaken for Berbers and can have difficulty leaving the country...any thoughts on this?

We want to do Morrocan things, eat and visit places less touristy. That's the way we always travel. I am trying to learn some Arabic, my french is o.k. and my spanish is fluent, but I'd like to be able to converse with everyone, not just the educated. any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site

Moroccans don't tend to stay in the Riads; unless of course they live abroad like us. I stayed in a Riad in Essaouira. They are everywhere. I would suggest looking when you get there. There are some places available even in high season. Stroll around, go in, get a price & see the room. We found prices varied immensely for what is much the same kind of place. Plus its a good way to have a first look through the maze of streets.

You will love Essaouira

Yes. Ignore it/him/whatever. Rude, ignorant & downright crazy.

Tourists of every colour travel to Morocco & you will see them when you arrive. You won't have any problems leaving (unless you are exporting something illegal )
