What is Moroccan culture for marriage?
Salam Alaikum
I'm a Muslim male intending to marry a Moroccan girl. I've visited Morocco too to meet her and her family. We met on the internet and after 4 months of contact, I visited her last month. We're not yet "officially" engaged but like each other overall. Can someone from Morocco please tell me something more about Moroccan girls and their cultural norms. I mean what is it that they expect from their fiances, whats considered acceptable, whats recommended, whats not accepted and 3yeb etc. Is it natural in Moroccan culture for females to *ask* for money/gifts from their fiance's? What are your cultural norms regarding the guy spending on the girl. Its not that I don't like to spend, but I just want to be sure its a Moroccan cultural norm and is natural there, coz for me thats just very odd for a girl to *ask* a guy for money/gifts before marriage, even if she is engaged to him. Actually I love spending money and gifting friends and family and my intentions with her are no different. Just that I find it strange that I haven't had the chance to do by myself, except for the sweets and chocolates that I bought for her when I visited her house for the first time. Is it maybe coz girls like to show off their gifts to their friends? Or is it just coz its natural and she thinks I might not be aware of the culture of gifting in Arabs, so shes just helping me along? Is it coz she's become overly attached and is already "treating" me like a husband? Any help from any Moroccans will be much appreciated. |

Hi Ali. I received your message. i have not ever been to Morocco but if I do get to travel, Morocco is the place I would go.
About advice. Maybe your fiance has been influenced by others. Things are not so good right now for many people. I have been broke myself awhile back so now since I do have a little job I try to save some money each month. It is not easy no matter where you live. I think the fact that you showed up to meet with your fiance and family with sweets and chocolate was very appropriate. It probably would be best to save what you have because you will need things after your wedding and by then you will have more information. I try really hard not to influence people about others because I do not want to hurt anyone. Best if you get to know everyone involved and then think things out. On another note I would like for you to have a part in the story I am working on here at Morocco.com I will post this on the story page for today. I do not know if anything will come of this story but I work on it and hope for the best. Best Wishes to you WitchQueen alias MysticalRose |

The Story
You click on the category under the guest book. The category is called Laugh Central and the thread is called Laughables by Malik but the story posts are made by me. Try to go to page ten and see the pages there. In the beginning there are posts by other people before you get to where the story starts. Next week I will start the part about the Wizard of Tehran and the Flying Carpet. You can play the part of the brother. All the people in the story are from Morocco.com, MoroccoDiscussions.com, NorthAfricaOnline.com and MoroccanStar.co.uk We hope we get a movie and everyone in the story could play the part they have. I do not know if that will really happen but hope for the best.
