A Seasonal Miracle
The smell of peppermint
(A favourable aftertaste)
I’m breathing it in
(Time I shouldn’t waste)
Just pausing for a moment
To savour the fresh air
It’s corny appreciation
But I really don’t care
Suddenly I’m optimistic
And I can’t help but cringe
I’m swallowing all the air
(I might as well binge)
I indulge in wintergreen
(The world tastes like mint)
And something tells me
My cheeks have a rosy tint
Reborn (or whatever)
The experience is extreme
At first I’m awkward
(Being happy, not mean)
But slowly I’ve adapted
(To my new sense of being)
It’s finally gotten natural
(I can’t help but squeam)
In the air I see my breath
And the snow is bright
But then it starts to thaw
(The change isn’t overnight)
My minty winter world
Is melting all around me
I’m slowing going back
(To the way I used to be)
Defrosted by the coldness
(My optimism is fading)
I no longer see beauty
(I’m back to degrading)
Wistfully I hoping upon
Winter’s last snowflake
(But looking at its beauty
Is more than I can take.)
Maybe next year when
I can taste mint once more
I’ll be sanguine again
(A moment’s all I ask for.).
