Alcohol is haram because people can end up doing so much harm to themselves and to others. I used to drink for 20 years and I can tell you it is not fun. yes it looks good at first like in any other business. but later on you start to see thenasty side of it.
God forbade to muslims for one reason. because it is a work of satan and todays societies have shown us in their statistics that Alcohol is indeed bad for you.
