That's just prophetic language. Luke knows that David was not Jesus' father, but that the messiah will come from the family line of David. (David was a king, so the term for throne and inheriting the kingdom is metaphorically employed in the prophetic picture).
Also the throne 'forever'.
We know that Jesus never had an earthly throne on earth. He declared before Pilate that His kingdom was not of this world.
But a spiritual kingdom in the hearts of men and women. So millions aknowledge Him as Lord, Savior and King in their hearts. 'King of kings and Lord of Lords' (Revelation 19:16).
His kingship is universal. Those who fail or refuse to acknowledge Him on earth will be denied entry into heaven. That's where the tangible kingdom with joy forevermore is.
