There has been a lot of tension in Perpignan,France since a french Algerian was beaten to death by gypsies last week, the tension has grown within the North African and Gypsy communities and a Moroccan man was recently shot dead as a result of this ongoing feud. There have been stand-offs with the police and CRS and many arrests made.
I visited a friend a couple of years back in Perpignan and although I noticed both communities were fairly large, there was little interaction and disputes were rare.
the BBC has an account, fairly vague i think.
