A lot of people I know slipped into it after being 'normal' secretaries. The role of a legal secretary varies from firm to firm - your actual role could be anything from a typist to a PA. Depends on who you work for. In terms of wages, you've also got to bear in mind that a lot of the big firms (whose adverts show high wages

) have audio typists as opposed to secretaries in the truest sense. You have got to be seriously fast & accurate to work for these people.
If you want to do it properly (&get more money), do a course. A friend of mine did a legal secretaries course with ILEX I believe. Your local college should have details.
