I personally think a clip round the ear or a smacked bottom is ok discipline and not 'beating' a child. Ti, i admire your (somewhat western) idea of star system and all that but at the end of the day some children are msakhat and do not listen, you can shout till you're blue in the face but unless they get a smack they won't stop their bad behaviour.If you teach them right from wrong and show them that if they cross a line then they will get a smack,then they are aware,otherwise they may never get the message.Some kids are running out of control and have no respect for their parents because they never were properly disciplined.
As a child I was disciplined with a smack or two,and the wooden spoon and my backside were friends for a while
,but it never did me any harm,and whats good enough for me will be good enough for my children insha allah,I know there will always be differing views on raising children,but I can understand where lines become blurred and abuse takes place,this is a difficult and understandably controversial topic, though throwing parents in jail for smacking is a little extreme i think.
