The Eid al Mawlid, or as its commonly known as ‘Milad-ul Nabi’ meaning ‘Birth of the Prophet’, is celebrated throughout Morocco, observing the birthday of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
Description:
This popular Muslim festival will see those of the faith attending religious services as well as enjoying a joyous feast, making up an important part of the festivities.
It’s interesting to note that the origins of such a festival can be traced as far as the Fatimid dynasty, which was around about the Eleventh Century. Similar festivities have made use of the term Mawlid in connexion with birthday celebrations for religious and historical figures such as Sufi Saints.
