Wyndham Port Lixus Resort Development

The exotic country of Morocco offers a rich cultural experience together with a warm Mediterranean climate in the north and an array of natural resources that include beautiful sandy beaches along its extensive Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. The new Wyndham Port Lixus Resort is being developed on the beautiful northern Atlantic coast of Morocco, about 80 kilometers south of Tangier and adjacent to the city of Larache.

The Wyndham Port Lixus Resort forms part of “Vision 2010”, the Moroccan government backed plan to develop six up-market resorts featuring recreational and leisure facilities to ensure tourist activity continues through all four seasons of the year. The project was initiated in 2001 by King Mohammed VI with the aim of increasing job creation and tourist revenues. The five-star Wyndham Port Lixus Resort will be managed by Corinthia Hotels International Limited (CHI Limited) under the Wyndham branding.

The 470 hectare resort site is situated on a sloping headland which provides breath-taking views over the Atlantic Ocean. The 17th hole of the resort’s golf course is directly behind the resort hotel, so that rooms either have a view of the ocean or across the lush landscaped golf course. The architecture of the hotel will be of a contemporary design with strong Moroccan and Asian influences and will feature two restaurants, with a number of beverage and bar facilities placed strategically throughout the hotel. Other features include conference facilities, children’s play areas, a large swimming pool with poolside beverage and snack bar and an extensive wellness spa with individual treatment rooms and fitness area. Guests at the hotel will be given golf course rights and have easy access to both of the resort’s safe swimming beaches.

Visitors will be offered the opportunity to discover nature, enjoy horse riding and engage in a wide variety of water sports. Also, guided tours of the surroundings including the Lixus archaeological site and the medina of Larache will be available. The nearby Loukas River features a vast salt plain which is home to flamingoes as well as numerous other exotic bird species throughout the year.

Construction work on the Wyndham Port Lixus Resort is scheduled to start in April 2008 with the goal of opening its doors in June 2010. Visitors to Morocco can look forward to visiting this luxury resort in the not too distant future.
