Golfing on Morocco’s Mediterranean Coastline

Located in a sheltered, natural bay around 10km north of Tetouan on the Mediterranean coastline the beach resort of Cabo Negro boasts one of Morocco's premier eighteen-hole golf courses, described by golfers who have played there as being well maintained, with interesting and challenging features. Popular with Morocco's socialites, the seaside resort has privately owned villas and a range of accommodation for visitors who want to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, sun, sea and spectacular sandy beaches. It is also a good base for exploring the nearby towns of Martil and M’diq, both of which have their own unique charm.

Built in 1972 as a nine-hole course and later extended, the Cabo Negro Royal Golf Club consists of a mixture of links, grassy areas, and pine and eucalyptus forests, with each of the eighteen holes being different from one another. The tropical climate enjoyed by this beautiful part of Morocco, makes a game of golf possible all year around and guests who meet the handicap requirement are welcome. The golf course has a driving range and putting green, as well as a club house serving refreshments. A teaching pro and pro shop are available, caddies are mandatory, and visitors can hire clubs, carts and trollies.

A range of water sports are available, including scuba diving, waterskiing, snorkeling and fishing. The undersea landscape and marine life are incredible, with coral, sponges, anemones, crabs, lobsters and a variety of fish. Schools of dolphins may be seen frolicking in the pristine waters that wash the shores of Cabo Negro. Other activities include horseback riding, tennis and hiking, with some nightclubs providing late night entertainment.

The nearby town of M'Diq is also well worth a visit and the annual Sailing Week – SNIM – hosted by M’Diq is a highlight for competitive yachting enthusiasts. Located northeast of Tetouan, on the edge of the spectacular Martil Valley, the seaside resort of Martil is another option for a pleasant day trip when visiting Cabo Negro.

Casablanca Museum Offers Insight into Moroccan Judaism

Founded in 1997 by the Jewish community of Casablanca, and managed by the Foundation of Moroccan Judaism, the Museum of Moroccan Judaism of Casablanca recently reopened following renovations. Housed in a spectacular villa set in the midst of well-tended gardens, the museum is located in the Oasis suburb of the city. The reopening ceremony held in April 2013 was presided over by the museum's president Jaques Toledano and attended by a number of Moroccan government officials as well the United States ambassador to Morocco, Samuel Kaplan, who had previously held the post of president of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation.

Look Into Morocco's Ancient History at Chellah

Now lying in ruins, the settlement of Chellah outside Rabat is a fascinating archeological site providing insight into the history of Morocco. Also known as Sala, or Chella, the remains of this ancient settlement overlook the fertile river plain of the Oued Bou Regreg, about two kilometers from where the river enters the Atlantic Ocean on Morocco's coastline. Some scholars are of the opinion that the site was originally a colony established by Phoenician and Carthaginian explorers going back to the third century BC, which would make it one of the oldest human settlements in Morocco.
